Description Randy Hudson CLA 2004-04-22 17:09:11 EDT
When you select a view tab on a stack of views, the tabs shift around because
of the Close icon and also the fact that the view's icon is only displayed on
the active tab. I don't like the new placement of the close icon. It make it
hard to close several views consecutively because the CLOSE button is never in
the same place for each view. Also, I find myself pressing it accidentally.

1) put close icon in the top right instead of on the tab
2) show view icons on all tabs, not just active.

The "shifting" of view tabs when you click on one to select the view
introduces another problem (in addition to those already cited). Since it's
not uncommon for a view to be "slow" to respond to the selection, we've seen a
number of users click the tab twice to "make sure the view is selected".
Equally, they may inadvertently double click instead of single click.

Because the tab "shifts" when it's selected, the second click frequently ends
up on the close box. So the second click closes the view. So the sum of a
user's actions is that they don't select the view (the intention), they close
it (and then they wonder what happened).

Shifting the target under the mouse as a result of any mouse action (e.g.,
click) is a pretty fundamental violation of UI interaction rules (unless it's
a game).

Is this still an issue in 3.2?

As of now 'LATER' and 'REMIND' resolutions are no longer supported.
Please reopen this bug if it is still valid for you.
