Description MG CLA 2004-04-19 21:05:57 EDT
It would be nice if I could lock one file such that when I hit close all, all
files except that files or the set of files that I have choosen to lock are
closed.

I imagine a little lock near the minimize button which i could turn on.

Try using cntl-shift-e. It is a dialog that will give you a good
approximation of what you are looking for. You can select the file you want
to remain open. Then hit 'Invert Selection' to pick everything else. Then
hit 'Close Selected Editors' to close them all.
Comment 2 Michael Van Meekeren CLA 2004-07-06 14:01:35 EDT
perhaps close All should not close Pinned editors?
Comment 3 MG CLA 2004-07-08 15:24:27 EDT
exactly... if there was a little pin button I could use that would be awesome.
Comment 4 Douglas Pollock CLA 2004-07-08 15:34:58 EDT
If you only want this for one file, then I would recommend using "Close
Others". Right click on the editor tab to bring up the appropriate menu.

Is this sufficient?
Comment 5 MG CLA 2004-07-08 16:14:31 EDT
The workflow that I wanted involved having three files kept open but the close
others is a helpful feature I wasn't aware of that I'll have to take advantage of.

"Pin Editor" currently has no meaning in Eclipse. Unless you open the
preferences and enable "Close Editors Automatically". This toggle should be
used more often, especially since I can't even remove it from the toolbar.
Comment 8 Randy Hudson CLA 2004-09-30 11:02:38 EDT
Can anyone (Doug?) explain the function of the Pin Editor button on a fresh
install of Eclipse 3.0? If it has no function, I would consider that a [minor]
bug, not an enhancement.
Comment 9 Douglas Pollock CLA 2004-09-30 11:09:25 EDT
Pin editor is used in conjunction with the "Close editors automatically" option
("Window > Preferences > Workbench > Editors").
Comment 10 Randy Hudson CLA 2004-09-30 11:43:37 EDT
... which is disabled by default in Eclipse 3.0. So why is the toolitem still
present and enabled.
Comment 11 Randy Hudson CLA 2004-10-14 10:09:07 EDT
A toggle button which does nothing (ignoring the obscure preference setting
that 98% of users will not enable) is a problem, not an enhancement.

As part of the 2% of users which enable that preference, changing the
definition of "Pin Editor" to the one described here would be an enhancement.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
