I think it is too hard to get to Project Properties. Justification: Our project is not in CVS (yet), but in PVCS (ick) and there can be manual work involved after synchronizing (outside of Eclipse). Because of the size and depth, I've often used the "Go Into" functionality of the packages view. If I want to edit my project properties (i.e., to update build paths) I have to do a lot of unwanted navigation just to get the top level project visible in the packages view (or switch to a different perspective) just to right-click it. And yet, there's a nearly empty project menu up there, just dying for a "Properties..." menu item.
If we do something here we have to coordinate with the platform UI and the Navigator. It is definitly true that the project's properties dialog carries a lot of relevant information. Moving to Platform UI for comment
A toplevel "Project" menu item is part of the latest 2.0 builds. I agree with Erich, it would be an interesting enhancement to add a menu item to get the properties dialog.
We now have a File / Properties retargetable menu item (it even has an accelerator: Alt+Enter). It would be confusing to also have Properties in the Project menu. Could add a button to the Info property page to open the Project properties. Should discuss with the usability team.
Will not fix. There is a File / Properties menu with Alt+Enter accelerator, and a context menu item for Properties in the Navigator and Packages views. Changing project properties is not done often enough to warrant another menu item.
