The list of the committers (and optionally the companies) that have contributed to an eclipse release should appear in the about dialog to motivate committers and to install a kind of recognition. In parallel, even bug reporters could be mentioned even if they are not committers. May be it will need to sign an agreement for that.
I think this is a cool and interesting idea for the reasons mentioned. We already have an acknowledgement page for every release of Eclipse as well, so we could get the names of contributors from there potentially.
A smallest possible change (without changing the way how About looks like etc) would be just to add a link to the "current" acknowledgements, as [1]. Adding all the text from [1] would explode the dialog without further change. [1] https://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/acknowledgements_4.18.php
One additional consideration is here that the Eclipse IDE contains code from multiple projects, e.g. the Eclipse top-level project but also EGit, JGit, M2e, Buildship etc... Only adding committers from the top-level project would be weird IMHO.
@Andrey : I have never seen the page you mentioned, which seems to be generated from a git shortlog command and for each version... It looks good ! And I have seen that it is also available for previous versions (I found the 4.16, 4.15 pages)..... I don't know how to reach this page from the Eclipse web site... I guess we must know the URL... So having the link in the about dialog would be a really nice idea. There is already a link to trademark or apache.. so why not to this page ?
