Description Gayan Perera CLA 2020-11-18 14:33:57 EST
Eclipse freeze when invoking type hierarchy for java.lang.Object. It doesn't make sense to make a type hierarchy for java.lang.Object therefore the suggestion is to make the system not perform a TH for java.lang.Object,

IJ is, and VSCode Java will be taking the following approach : https://github.com/eclipse/eclipse.jdt.ls/pull/1656#issuecomment-773808384.

Maybe it can be improved, according to Bug 516038 ?

I think a solution that just shows a message in the Type Hierarchy view (or, if nothing better is affordable, a popup) saying that "Type Hierarchy for Object is no available. All Java objects are instances of Object" would be enough to cover this case decently.

Comment 4 Eclipse Genie CLA 2023-05-13 05:22:13 EDT
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
