Bug 558205 provides support for lambdas as LabelProvider. I should start using that in platform.

Andrew, I pushed a few changes to use you new API. Please have a quick look. I stop now converting existing LabelProviders, so if you want you can continue this work.

Sounds good. I'm currently doing some m2e-related work but will try to continue converting existing LabelProviders when I have a chance.
