We need to design a new splash screen for Eclipse products. The last splash screen was designed for 4.12 (2019-06). Here are the requirements Requirement 1: Splash screen Size : 452x302 Format: XCF (gimp format) should have month/year and release name in separate text layers, so that it can be modified for update releases Requirement 2: branding image in about dialog current image: http://git.eclipse.org/c/platform/eclipse.platform.git/plain/platform/org.eclipse.sdk/eclipse_lg.png size: 116x302 format: png See bug 545158 for previous splash screen.
It will be needed by 2020-03 RC2.
(In reply to Noopur Gupta from comment #1) > It will be needed by 2020-03 RC2. We need this splash screen before we starte 4.16 development. Based on current plan we will start 4.16 development on March 3, 2020. We need these by that time.
Wayne, could you please suggest who can do this?
Matthias, you've done some artwork recently. Any interest in doing this?
(In reply to Dani Megert from comment #4) > Matthias, you've done some artwork recently. Any interest in doing this? Ping!
We will work on this. Christie Witt is our new Creative Specialist.

Could you add transparency?
(In reply to Carsten Hammer from comment #8) > Could you add transparency? As far as I know only bmp files are supported for the splash screen (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=518138) and bmp files don't support transparency.
Ah ok, it looks like you are right, see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=114567

Correct, see Bug 114567
Created attachment 281716 [details] Eclipse IDE splash screens for 4.16 release I've attached 2 options for the Eclipse IDE splash screen that are named with "-v1" and "-v2" at the end. I prefer V2, but I will leave it up to you. I've also included the Photoshop file so that the text layer can be updated later.

Also Platform project uses a splash without IDE and epp uses with IDE. Can you please create both versions?
Hello, thanks for the new splash screen. I think v2 is better.
Can you clarify that I should remove only the IDE logo from the splash screen? Or the IDE logo and the date for this second variation. Both variants should have date on the splash screen. Platform's splash screen should say "eclipse" with eclipse logo and date. EPP's splash screen should say "eclipse IDE" with eclipse logo and date. Here are the previous splash screens 1. Platform's splash screen https://git.eclipse.org/c/platform/eclipse.platform.git/plain/platform/org.eclipse.platform/splash.bmp 2. Epp's splash screen https://git.eclipse.org/c/epp/org.eclipse.epp.packages.git/plain/packages/org.eclipse.epp.package.common/splash.bmp
Created attachment 281745 [details] Eclipse IDE splash screens for 4.16 release - V2 Thanks for the details. I've attached the updated files. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow but I will be back on Feb 17th – If you need anything else just let me know.

I agree v2 looks good. Should we share it more broadly for feedback or do we assume the discussion here is good enough? If we agree on this splash, then all we need are the 2020-09, 2020-12 and 2021-03 variations as well. For those, only the 400x300 .jpg files are enough IMO.
If everyone agrees, I can go ahead create the 2020-09, 2020-12 and 2021-03 variations. Please confirm!

Created attachment 281854 [details] Eclipse IDE splash screens to 2021-03
These are (In reply to Christie Witt from comment #25) > Created attachment 281854 [details] > Eclipse IDE splash screens to 2021-03 These Screens look good. Thank you for providing new splash screens. We will resolve this at the start of 4.16. When we start using splash screens.
The EPP splash screens are checked in for further usage, post March release: https://git.eclipse.org/c/epp/org.eclipse.epp.packages.git/commit/?id=0720a585e228daf270f1a2223ce7ac407cfb74b0 Thanks!

Created attachment 282404 [details] Dark "About Eclipse" window Even though the new splash screen looks good, the "About Eclipse" window is significantly less appealing than previous versions. The portion of the splash screen used there is very dark. It looks pretty much like a monochrome black background on my screen, unless I push brightness to maximum level where I can see very faint orange spots. Is there any way to improve this?
Created attachment 282423 [details] Image for "About Eclipse" Screen I've attached a lightened image for the "About Eclipse" screen.

Dear Chrisien, to support High Resolultion Displays (like the mac Retina Displays or 4K displays) we need to have the about image also in a version with twice the size so in 130x604. Can you create that?
(In reply to Matthias Becker from comment #35) > Dear Chrisien, Sorry for this typo. Should be "Dear Christie"
