Our plugins have their own set of preference pages. If someone press the apply button, some settings are performed and some Java classpath and Platform path variables are set/updated. If someone has opened (instanciated) the Platform's path variable preference page before, then modified our page, then pressed apply, and then reselect it, its internal model is not updated. It still contains the old path variables. The Java's classpath variable preference page has excactly the same problem. I have to close and reopen the preferences dialog to see the new values.
see also bug 54787
The path variable page is owned by Platform-UI. The java page is JDT-UI. Moving to JDT-UI for comment.
I fixed this for the classpath variable preference page (see bug 54787). This is the stategy that we also have for the build path property page: When leaving the page, the user is prompted to save the setting so other pages see the changes. Whe the page is entered, the page checks if the saved sate is different than before and if yes, it refreshes the page (all unsaved changes ar lost)
No plans for 3.0
Reopening now that 3.0 has shipped
This might be an interesting case for the working copy support in 3.1.
As per http://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform_UI/Bug_Triage_Change_2009
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
