Description Michał Zegan CLA 2018-11-08 14:14:14 EST
Sometimes when tabbing through/out of views and editors focus is lost and cannot be regained unless by switching views or doing a mouse click. It doesn't actually happen to most views/editors, most notably i can reproduce it in maven pom editor and egit staging view. I remember this bug has existed in maven pom editor before on both windows and linux, so it is not probably platform specific.
How to reproduce:
- in maven pom editor:
open any pom.xml. Note, on linux and eclipse 4.9/gtk3 this will probably trigger another similar bug that seems to be a different bug to me and that I will report separately. You may need to click with a mouse on the pom xml that appears in editor to continue because this causes focus to be lost too for me. This however should not happen on windows.
Press shift+ctrl+tab to break out of the editor, and shift+tab to go to the tab list. using left arrow, switch to dependencies tab. dependency hierarchy may also trigger this but I haven't checked.
Keep pressing tab. after few tab presses, before the dependency list itself but after the filtering field (if i recognize it right), focus will be lost. or at least you will not be able to navigate in *any* direction.
To regain focus, click somewhere on some focusable thing with the mouse, or try to just switch views even with keyboard.
To reproduce on egit staging view:
switch to staging view, you land on the commit message textbox. You press ctrl+shift+tab to get out of it.
Repeatedly press shift+tab. you should be able to navigate backfards through the whole view. But when you leave it, focus is lost, same tips for regaining it as above.
You can do the same in reverse order, by having staging view open and visible, and tabbing to it forward through other views. after reaching staging view's view menu button you can tab once more and focus will be lost once again.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
