The editor window is becoming corrupted with visual artifacts from the surrounding windows. Open a file with lines wider that the screen can show without horizontal scrolling. Scroll horizontally and window artifacts from beside the editor are copied in the editor window. A vertical scroll causes a repain and they are cleaned up. -- Configuration Details -- Product: Eclipse IDE 4.8.0.20180619-1200 (org.eclipse.epp.package.java.product)Installed Features: org.eclipse.platform 4.8.0.v20180611-0656

Please try with Eclipse 4.8.
I don't see this on Windows 7.

Mark, you marked the bug as 4.6. You are on the latest version, no further action needed. I have seen this as well but not as bad as this. In my case, the texteditor would show blank lines when the lines would overflow by a lot, although I am not able to reproduce it anymore.
What distribution/GTK3 version/theme do you experience this issue on?
