What OS is this?
Fedora release 26 (Twenty Six)
Can you try with latest I-build from http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/index.html ? There are some changes in master about how SWT works with colors.
The specific build has failed: --------- Eclipse 4.8.0 Integration Build: I20171203-2000 This page provides access to the various deliverables of Eclipse Platform build along with is logs and tests. Build Failed See logs. Specifically, see the log with errors, or a summary. Or see traditional Compile Logs (if any). --------- Is there any working latest version to try?

Hmm, shows ok on my system. Fedora 26/adwaita.
Created attachment 271825 [details] eclipse-photon-black-background.png I have tested the provided "eclipse-SDK-I20171202-1500-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz". It is slightly improved, but I think it is still ugly and difficult to read.
Created attachment 271826 [details] eclipse-mars-gray-background.png The same information in the old Eclipse Mars that looks fine. If the latest Eclipse releases could display the same, it would be great.

Created attachment 271829 [details] kde-gtk-apps-settings.png I am using Adwaita for both GTK2 and GTK3 in the KDE settings. I have noticed that I was using the "export SWT_GTK3=0" in the old Mars v4.5.2 in order the preferences to work. I have checked that the same setting improved the highlighted background in the latest eclipse release to light grey. Is that option mandatory?
I think I have an idea what's going on. Would you please tell me how did you get the entries with color background? Is this some desktop setting you have for this ?
Created attachment 271834 [details] kde-colors-settings.png I am using breeze color scheme. I am not sure if this is the one to blame.

Created attachment 271851 [details] eclipse-photon-latest-ibuild.png I confirm that the issue has been resolved in the following built that I have tried: eclipse-SDK-I20171210-2000-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz
Marking as resolved.
