The Filters dialog for the Problems and Tasks views needs reworking. As Eclipse continues to evolve this dialog seems to be gaining more and more controls. I feel that it needs to be reorganized to better present the filtering options to the user. I've taken the liberty to draw a mock-up of an alternate UI that uses notebook pages. The names I chose for the notebook pages are not ideal, but they give you the general idea.

Thanks for the suggestion. This dialog could definitely use some reworking. Here's some additional suggestions: 1. The "parent types" field doesn't tell the user anything useful and should be removed. 2. Rather than specifying a working set for the filter in each dialog, there should be one working set for the whole workbench (which is used by the package explorer, resource navigator, etc.). The "on working set" filter could be removed, and the "on any resource" filter will automatically filter by the same working set that is being used by the other views. 3. The "limit visible items" field should be a global preference, not part of the filter. 4. As an advanced option, it should be possible to define multiple simultaneous filters (the most common use would be to show errors on any resource and all markers in the currently selected resource). 5. The "Task" marker type (and the "Problem" marker type in the problems view) is confusing (since everything in the list is a task/problem). It should be removed and replaced by a checkbox for "Other". 6. The "Enabled" flag can be removed, since disabling the filter is equivalent to filtering on any resource.
Glad to see that my mock-up is generating some ideas for improvement. <g>
