I'm trying to sync with the Eclipse UI stream over VPN.  It's taking several minutes, and seems to be considering
every file for changes, requiring at least one round trip for each.

In LeapFrog, the team stream consisted of a snapshot of the workspace and UUIDs representing the elements' contents,
stored in a compact format.
The snapshot could be read, and compared with the workspace very quickly.

Any chance we could play such tricks in Eclipse?

Syncing is much faster now.

Making bug M5 to act as reminder to MV if there is any more work to do on 
improving sync performance.  Feel free to close PR and mark as fixed.
