- in the File Editors pref page, choose add associated editor / external programs - the list shows document type names, not application names - for example, Notepad does not show up, but Text Document does; similarly, WordPad does not show up, but WordPad Document does. This is the list you get when you choose New... in Windows Explorer, not Open With... (actually it shows many more items than New... shows). This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
