20031119 When you exit the workbench the cancel button is always disabled. This is more problematic now that it is possible to see the running jobs in the dialog as there is nothing the user can do about it.
Nick can you explain why we need to do this?
We backed out of showing the jobs in this progress dialog. Cancel is disabled because it's not possible to back out after disposing resources etc. Is it possible for the system to block with this dialog up due to background jobs?
If you exit during a job that locks the workbench then you currently have to wait for it to finish before the workbench shutdown starts. If you are in this state it is useful to be able to cancel these jobs to let the workbench beging the shutdown.
Consider for M6. Note that currently the save runs in the UI thread, though I don't see any good reason for this.
While on this subject, I've noticed that on Linux GTK, the "X" button to close the progress dialog is enabled during shutdown. The user can currently close the progress dialog in the middle of workspace save. I suspect this doesn't actually affect the save operation, but it means there will be no more progress during shutdown.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
