Description Dameer Joog CLA 2003-11-05 10:24:18 EST
It will be good if one could change the backgroung on line numbers as other
editors do.
Comment 1 Dani Megert CLA 2003-11-06 03:22:13 EST
Which build ID?

Which editor (different editors are contributed by different components)?

The Text editor ruler has the same color as the OS text widget and can currently
not be changed inside Eclipse (see bug 5811).

In 2.0 the Java editor's ruler color was using the OS text background color and
the editor's text background could be changed inside Eclipse which resulted in
two different colors. Now the ruler has the same color as the selected Java
editor's text background color.

Is this PR requesting that the line number ruler can have a different color than
the editor text background?

Yes i am requesting that the line number ruler can have a different color than
the editor text background. Most current editors support it.

Also there is no way (i have seen) one can share color setting with a group. For
example if one person develops a nice coloring scheme he could share that with
the rest of the community. For this you would need to export/import color
settings. Maybe i should file this separately ??

There's already a feature request for color schemes.

is anyone notice how *late* eclipse is in the editor land ! so many people have reported the need to get line numbers colored !
Comment 8 Dani Megert CLA 2006-08-16 02:13:52 EDT
You can always attach a good quality patch if you want something badly.
Comment 9 Lars Vogel CLA 2019-09-05 02:53:02 EDT
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. If the request is still relevant please remove the stalebug whiteboard tag.

With the existing concept of "System color" it shouldn't be hard to add possibility of separate background color without breaking the current behaviour especially in context of light/dark theme.
Comment 11 Mickael Istria CLA 2020-09-17 04:45:13 EDT
I think bug 531033 should be a prerequisite before we start adding new color customization to the text editors.
