Installed the latest stable build 3.0 Stream Stable Build3.0M3Thu, 28 Aug 2003 on my SunBlade 150, running Solaris 8 with the recommended Solaris 8 and Java patches installed. When I open Eclipse and attempt to edit a source file there is no visible cursor. I can see the line I'm on being highlighted, but cannot see a cursor. I have found no settings in the Windows->Preferences to change the colour of the cursor or to enable it.
I assume you see this in the Java editor, right? Press Insert to get into normal Insert or Overwrite mode. I assume that the new Smart Insert cursor causes problems.
Hello, Yes, it's the Java Editor. I tried pressing Insert today but it's not fixing the problem. The cursor is still not visible. This problem was reproduced by another engineer in my team using the a different SunBlade 150 and Solaris 8 installation. Using the Insert key, it does allow me to toggle between normal Insert and Overwrite mode. I can send you the "Configuration Details" which have some NullPointerExceptions to do with showing the tooltip. I tried e-mailing this via 'bugzilla-daemon@eclipse.org' but it bounced. I'm new to Bugzilla and haven't had time to read the FAQ ... :-) Another issue, which I can always raise a bug for, the version number displayed at Eclipse startup is 2.1 whereas I have downloaded the 3.0M3 release. If this hasn't been reported can you let me know. Thanks. Eoan
The version number is fixed in 3.0 M4 which should be declared stable today if everything goes well. Please add the stack trace to this PR either as comment or as attachment.

Not sure whether the exception causes the cursor to disappear. Moving to SWT for comments since the NPE happens there.
Moving report to triage, see http://www.eclipse.org/swt/triage.php for more info about swt bug triaging.
Solaris is no longer a supported platform.
