Such events are reacted upon by the "Static Hooks" API Doc provider, for example.

Selecting a package in the Package Explorer does fire the appropriate event, but selecting the package in the Outline view doesn't.

On the Eclipse-side of things, only the Static Hooks provider uses packages. There, the Package Explorer is an easy workaround (one may even argue that it's the more common way to select a package).

Postponing this for 2.2.0.

Unless we get external contributions on this one, we have to postpone it for 2.3.0.
