We plan to investigate how we could leverage EMF to get a cleaner code for working with model repositories, downloading archives, responding to changes like URLs etc. This is a evaluation task with no concrete time frame.

At the moment, we don't have any plans to pursue this idea. Closing as WONTFIX for now.
