We would like to backport the fix for Bug #420848 to the m2e 1.4.x stream

I don't believe this should be considered as a new feature requiring a bump in the minor version, rather a fix for a missing critical functionality, no API is changed with that commit. 

So we'd like to release an m2e 1.4.1 version, that would ultimately be available via the upcoming aggregate site for Java 8 support in Kepler.

Thanks for reaching out. FWIW, you don't need PMC approval for such a decision, i.e. putting out a service release. I do trust Technology projects doing the right thing.

In any case, you have my full support for such a release.
