Description Jacob Robertson CLA 2003-09-12 14:26:41 EDT
The little dialog that pops up when you do Control-F should be able to dock.
It is very annoying when it shows up right on top of the text you're
searching. So, you invariably have to move it. OR, if it was docked like
everything else, you'd be good to go.

Moving to UI for consideration. With floating views it's now a possibility.
Comment 2 Tod Creasey CLA 2006-06-22 08:35:58 EDT
There are currently no plans to work on this feature
Comment 3 Daniel Sokolowski CLA 2015-08-05 15:25:24 EDT
Can we re-open this? I believe there is a need and so let the votes decide.

If you provide a code patch for this, we can reconsider, otherwise you can use CTRL+J to do inline search.

This should be reconsidered. It is a feature of modern UI to have an "inline" search or a search that doesn't require an additional dialog that covers up a lot of screen real estate.

You see it in Netbeans and IntelliJ. You see it in all modern web browsers (which compete with each other on the best user interface).

It really is time for Eclipse to get with the program and provide a better way to search for things.
