Mac OS X 10.2.6

Open a Java project and open a Java editing window. Type into the editing window.

Notice that the bottom status bar (that contains the "Writable"/"Smart Insert"/cursor 
position indicators) flickers visibly as you type each character.

This is occurring on a reasonably fast machine (Powerbook with 1Ghz G4 processor).
