I suggest to do cleanups in the platform project, e.g. Delete obsolete plug-ins Delete obsolete wiki pages Retire obsolete examples, etc I would like to have this as kind of umbrella bug for these activities.
Note: From a discussion with John Arthone on EclipseConEuropoe 2013 I understood that it is ok to retire platform plug-ins which are not used in the Eclipse SDK build. The policy should be that a readme file is added to the project explaining that the plug-ins has been removed because it was obsolete/replaced/.. I also suggested to get rid of the .project files for such plug-ins so that these project do not appear anymore in the import project wizard.
Bug 251824 is not a clean up item.
(In reply to Dani Megert from comment #2) > Bug 251824 is not a clean up item. It definitely makes contributions to Eclipse much more annoying than necessary. But your are right, it is not "resource" cleanup but a code fix.
Dani, I changed the title back. I plan to use this bug report for cleanup activities in the whole platform including the related e4 tooling (used for RCP development), I see no value in having one bug per Git repo.
This bug is getting really big, I target it for the 4.4 release and once Luna is out I close this one and create a new "Cleanup" bug for the next release and transfer all open items to this new bug.
Fixes related to this should be closed for M7.
(In reply to Dani Megert from comment #6) > Fixes related to this should be closed for M7. This cleanup includes wiki, snippets, test, etc updates, so I think it should be schedule for RC4.

I suggest we then close this one as fixed, since it also blocks the plan item bug 422762. We can open a new bug if more work is to be done during 4.5.

That is the plan, see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=420779#c5. I assumed that I can wait until RC4 to do this. Bug 422762 seems to be scheduled for 4.4. so I think this should work fine. Let me know if that is not correct.
I don't want to see such changes in RC4. Please close during RC3.
I moved all outstanding bugs to Bug 435475. Thanks everybody for helping here, I think we made great progress in Luna. Marking as fixed.
