env: win7 x64 + eclipse 3.7 64bit + sun jre 1.7 + edt 0.8.2.v201212072101-1E-89FneZMidHjz-vkp2iiKFAF	
re-prodcued steps:
1. install edt0.82
2. create basic project
3. egl search + ? or ???? + funtion + workspace

results:
the egl search results are wrong

expected results:
? it will search one-character funtion name
???? it will search four-character funtion name
one or multiple "?" for egl search can work well

Can you try this on EDT .8.1 and see if it is a regression?

Brian, i tried it on edt0.81 and it is not a regression bug.

Deferring until the Future for now since this is not a regression.  We can revisit this issue if there is time available at the end of the .8.2 release.
