Currently the only way to compare two files is by selecting them in the navigator and from the menu, "Compare with each other". This is very cumbersome, specially when the files are open in front of you. We should be able to compare to editors, not two files. One place that this can be put is in the list of the editors. (Ctrl+Shift+W)
Will consider for 3.0.

Is someone working on that? It would be a very useful and productive feature, wen you have to compare two files from two projects project1/src/a/c/d/e/FileA.java project2/src/a/c/d/e/FileA.java Emacs has this for ages: ediff-compare-buffers anyone?
Resolution LATER is deprecated, reopening to address it during GSOC.
This bug has been assigned for 3 years, did this get fixed in a different bug?

A Workaround could be the funktion 'Compare with open Editor...' in the AnyTool Plugin (http://andrei.gmxhome.de/anyedit/index.html) The GSOC draft for this is: http://wiki.eclipse.org/The_%22Compare_with%22_dialog
(In reply to comment #7) > The GSOC draft for this is: > http://wiki.eclipse.org/The_%22Compare_with%22_dialog Right, this reminded me that we actually do have this kind of dialog in Eclipse. Go to "General > Keys" and look for "Compare With Other Resource". When bind select a file in an explorer and press defined key seq. The dialog has been hidden because it still need some polishing (see bugs blocking bug 224562).
