Need to set the tile as the default layout of the editor
area programmatically, so that whenever two editors are opened in the
editor area,we will be able to see the two editors in tiled layout.

Hi,

I know we can tile the editor working area manually by using drag and
drop. But is it possible to set the tile as the default layout of the editor
area programmatically, so that whenever two editors are opened in the
editor area,we will be able to see the two editors in tiled layout.

Any more ideas?

I'm looking to do exactly this in our application: programmatically lay out two editors next to each other without requiring the user to do it themselves.

Typically, users with only basic UI manipulation experience will not consider that the tabs can be moved at all, and will therefore not consider the fact they can be laid out in any manner other than that presented programmatically by the application itself.

What we basically need in an 'IWorkbenchPage.openEditors(editors[])' and the workbench will arrange them proportionally. Later, controls to define the portions of the screen each editor gets given would be useful.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
