A gradient separator improves the design flexibility and helps designers organize elegant panels. A gradient separator is a good alternative to groups, etched separators and white space. A thin gradient can separate two panel sections without drawing too much attention to the separator. It is good choice if plain white space may confuse the user. You can find elegant horizontal and vertical examples of such a gradient separator in the Windows XP login screen.
SN to advise.
Interesting, I'm giving this to Platform UI because Eclipse branding issues are not SWT work items until approved by the UI designers. There doesn't seem to be a native gradient separator and gradients go in and out of fashion!
We're talking to the graphic designers about improvements to L&F for R3.0. Kevin, could you give them this suggestion?
I think the Forms library provides some of what is requested here and the rest is somewhat out of date
