Description David Williams CLA 2012-03-16 00:06:13 EDT
I wanted to capture in this bugzilla the issue that once the platform builds moves to build.eclipse.org, (instead of within IBM environment) the "checkpii" tool (an internal IBM proprietary tool) will no longer be ran as part of the unit tests. This tool checks various files for PII and user documentation to make sure it can be correctly translated and rendered with various encodings.

While there is no easy, high qualify Open Source substitute available (that any of us know about) eventually, with enough effort, perhaps at least some of the functionality could be duplicated with other tools.

Will require investigation.

But I thought best to open a bug to track any discussion or findings.

The big value of chkpii was validating HTML syntax errors. There are other possible options out there such as the w3c HTML validator. In Orion we use the xmlvalidate Ant task, but the platform doc is mostly not XHTML so I don't think it will help there (and I wouldn't recommend switching platform doc to XHTML either).

The tool is called CHKPII.

That's only one part. For me a bigger advantage of the tool is that it finds invalid Java properties files when single quotes and MessageFormat are mixed.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
