Hi,

Mane developers who are not familiar who are new to eclipse having troubles with workspace / project concepts in eclipse especially because they are represented as a folder with files in it (.project, .metadata, etc.). In our company generally each workspace holds one project, and project resides inside workspace. I've seen many time where a developers chooses its project folder as workspace location and do not understand where their project "disappeared". In some cases opening a workspace inside project causes "harm" to a project itself.

Enhancement proposal: If selected "workspace folder" is already a "project folder" (my guess is that containing .project file should be enough condition), do not allow this selection for workspace location and issue a message.

Thanks,
Yevgeny

Reproducible: Always

This would be done by the Workspace selection dialog in Platform UI.

Hi,

Is there a chance of supporting this for Juno release? This functionality will make Eclipse more "friendly" to its new users.

Thanks a lot,
Yevgeny

We have no one looking at this right now. We accept patches, see http://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform_UI/How_to_Contribute

But with RC1 starting after next week, this won't be available until Kepler.

Hi guys,

Any chance supporting this in the near future? I think this small change will enhance user experience significantly.

Thanks a lot :-)
