Some times eg when you have performed a search you hava a lot of windows open in the main editing area. It would be nice to be able to close all these windows at once instead of clicking on each tabs close icon. Why not include a "close all" option under the "close" option in the right click popup on the documnet tab.
Note that there is a shortcut (ctrl-shift-f4) to do this.
A "Close all" action in the context menu would nevertheless be nice to have. Moreover, there should be a "Close all but active" option - I often want to focus on one of the editors and continue working from there (chances are big that it is open when many are). If I close all, I need to reopen that one manually.
At the moment, there is no plan to add a "Close All" item to the context menu. To control the size of the context menu, we are limiting the items in that menu to actions that are used a lot by a large number of users. "Close All" is just not one of those action. We had experimented with a "Close all but active" action in the 2.1 cycle. Feedback was not mixed. It was not as popular as we had expected. We also started to get all sorts of "Close all but ???" type of requests (Close all but dirty editors, Close all but pin editors, etc). We have an editor management dialog (Window > Switch to Editor) that allows you to do all these things by varying the selection of editors. We will be looking at editor management for 3.0 and all these issues will be revisited. Maybe so other enhancement will solve part/all of your concerns.
