Build 2.1 1. Turn autobuild off 2. Export preferences 3. Start a new workspace 4. Import the preferences you exported in 2 Observe: The autobuild preference is still on until you restart. Same happend with the 'Show color icons' preference. It should offer to retart the workbench after importing the preferences.
This is why there are notes on preferences that require restart. However the autobuild problem should not exist and sounds like a genuine bug.
The auto build preference problem is a result of Bug 36216
Note the initial request still stands. I find the notes on preferences not visible enough. We should really offer to restart (as we offer to rebuild if the compiler setting change).
Created attachment 4500 [details] Suggested rework when core issues fixed Here is a patch to the current code that removes all of the references to the auto build UI preference. When the Core issues are fixed this can be applied in order to simplify the code.
Confirmed that the fix to 36216. Auto build needs to revisited along with preferences in general - see Bug 36236. Marking this as an enhancement as the only remaining issue is the request to restart.
3.0 M8: Opend bug 57010 because imported preferences were also not applied to the workbench appearance (colors and fonts).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
