With e4, the workbench window contains too much white space around views that doesn't serve a purpose (see red marks in the attached screenshot).

In 3.x, the white area around the part contents was only 2px wide, and it was painted with a different color when the part was active. This "active part" indication is missing in e4, and there's too much wasted space that only creates visual noise. I cannot even use that area to resize parts.
