Description Markus Keller CLA 2011-05-17 12:30:20 EDT
Directory listings should be enabled for all directories below (including)
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/

E.g. for bug 342697, I need access to the console logs (System.out, not System.err) from the performance tests, and I have no idea where I can find them.

Sometimes, I can find the right directories on the internal build machine where the SDK tests currently run, but right now, no build with performance results is available there, so that trick also doesn't work.

This is an Apache configuration setting (Indexes on). This is disabled for security reasons....I doubt that the webmaster will change this.

Webmaster, could the the directory listings be enabled for selected directories only? It doesn't make much sense to block directory listings in the downloads section. Or is there at least an easy way to list the files/folders in an index.php?

Well, technically, yes, but you know how that will go. Other projects will ask for directory browsing, next thing you know we'll have to maintain a huge list of directories in an Apache config file. Besides, generated directory indexes look like the early 1990's.

If the files are physically stored on download.eclipse.org, why not add links to them on the build's index.php?

Markus, this issue won't be a problem once we move the build to hudson because you will be able to see the entire hudson workspace and associated files.

I found the log files I needed (bug 342697 comment 36), so I'm not blocked by this problem any more.

It would still be good to have links to the following files on the build result pages:

- XML reports with test results
=> e.g. right in the test results table, see bug 290883

- performance test console output logs
=> performance/performance.php has links to e.g. performance/html/org.eclipse.jdt.text.tests_win32perf2.html, but misses the log at performance/win32perf2/org.eclipse.jdt.text.tests.performance.eventdriventestsuite.txt

I would prefer to link to specific pages, or "scan" for specific types of files, and not have a general "browse" capability, but will leave this open as place holder for places we can improve.

To cross reference, this is related to bug 417516.

Changing title, just so it's clearer as to current purpose.

If anyone knows of things not mentioned yet, you can mention it hear, or open separate bug and mark it as blocking this one, so this once becomes "umbrella" bug.
