RC1. Open a Resources Perspective. Open a *.java file. Open a *.properties file. Switch focus back and forth between the two files, paying attention to the toolbar area of the Outline View. Notice that the class icon flashes on the right hand side of the toolbar as switching takes place. Note that to see the error, the toolbar icons for the *.java file need to wrap to a new "row".

On Eclipse 3.2, build I20060223-1656, I am experiencing the same bug with a slightly additional side-effect: the tool bar for the outline view stays on the screen. To reproduce: 1. Open the outline view. 2. Open a text file and a java file. 3. Maximize the java file's editor. 4. Switch to the text editor tab 5. Switch to the java editor tab Now, the outline view toolbar is shown on the right even though the java editor is maximized. Note: I thought an extra step was needed, but the above steps reproduce for me. If the steps do not reproduce, try: 2.5. Open enough java editors that the editors tab scroll when maximized.
Paul, is this another of the infamous toolbar appearing when it shouldn't bugs?
Yes, it's the same bug. PW
So did you want to take ownership of it?
Is this still a problem in 3.3? PW

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
