Currently one can only choose to put tab's above or beneath the editor pane. 
If one has more than 6 files open and filenames are long (java class names) 
these class names become quickly unreadable. So when I could choose to put 
these tabs at the right edge of the editor pane, much more classnames can be 
displayed. It would also be nice if I could choose to have these tabs sorted 
by time or by class name. I appreciate the eclipse IDE very much, it is very 
nice and well done, but the feature I described is my big wish.

There are no plans for the UI team to work on this defect until higher 
priority items are addressed.  If you would like to work on this defect, 
please let us know on the platform-ui-dev mailing list.

We will however be investigating various editor management improvements for 
2.2.
