"Make sure that both the local resources as well as the server have the same encoding. Eclipse's CVS support does not support automatic translation of encodings."

Well, it would be nice, if this was supported, because we experienced the following:

- there is a Linux CVS server (file system encoding is UTF-8)
- there is a Windows box with Eclipse
- in the eclipse cvs repository configuration, the encoding is properly set to UTF-8
- the workspace encoding is different from the CVS encoding, e.g. cp1252
- there is a file in your workspace with umlauts in the content (e.g. הצ)

If you have modified that file locally and create a patch, the patch contains '?' instead of the umlauts.

Reproducible: Always

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
