Description Chris Aniszczyk CLA 2010-03-01 12:05:14 EST
When I click the hyperlink to install more API environment descriptions... I get the p2 ui to popup but no sites are added... so you effectively can't use this functionality.

Is there a reason we can't ship with the descriptions (ip issues?)?

I think it is mostly because they are pretty big and not everyone might be interested by them.
The link only opens the p2 update UI.
Comment 2 Chris Aniszczyk CLA 2010-03-01 12:11:53 EST
I assume opening the p2 ui only is a bug?
Comment 3 Olivier Thomann CLA 2010-03-01 12:17:07 EST
At the time we added the link, we could not do better than opening the p2 update UI.
What are you suggesting ?
Comment 4 Chris Aniszczyk CLA 2010-03-01 12:21:24 EST
Open the p2 ui and maybe add the site where the EE descriptions are located and have them selected?
Comment 5 Markus Keller CLA 2011-01-10 05:23:49 EST
Furthermore, the EE descriptions are hard to find because the item is called "PDE/API Tools Environment Descriptions", so filtering for "execution" does not find the item.

And the Details section is wrong. It says
"This feature provides the description for the execution environment
JRE-1.1.", but the feature contains the interesting EE descriptions like JavaSE-1.5 and J2SE-1.4 as well.

We should clean this up for 3.8.
Comment 7 Markus Keller CLA 2012-01-30 10:05:31 EST
I can't find an update site with the environment descriptions any more. Where are they supposed to be?

This was fixed in bug 353844.

We will not be able to fix the hyperlink to have an initial selection for 3.8, so I am removing the milestone.

In 4.4 we will investigate the improvements p2 has made to their install wizard. See bug 407764 comment 5.

If we change this, we should update the doc specified in Bug 414208

We could consider using the repository catalog

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
