Jobs are allowed to have a icon set. The Job's state (waiting/sleeping/blocked/running) should be an icon overlay on top of the Job's icon.

See CompositeImageDescriptor

Reproducible: Always

Susan,

Can you raise a request for the overlay images?

We're working through some modified progress graphics in bug 170956, which are related to this, since the default icon for a job/task may be changing. So I haven't wanted to submit a request for overlays until that is worked out.

However, it's useful to collect more detail in the meantime. I assume you are talking about an overlay that would appear on top of the job icon in the progress view (or jobs dialog details). This would be used instead of switching out the job icon and putting in a state icon.

Some issues I see:
- we can only ensure that the overlays look good with the default task icon. We would probably want to provide the graphic designer with some icons that are commonly used in the Eclipse SDK so that we know the overlays look good on the most commonly used job icons.
- I don't believe we currently spec the job icon size. Prakash, do you know how sizes are handled? Do we always size the icon to fit an assumed size or does the job list item grow as the icon grows? We may want to specify the suggested size in IProgressConstants if we are going to design overlays for a particular size.
- In bug 206876 we weren't happy with the "lock" icon so we would still need to decide an appropriate metaphor for the blocked state.

It would help expedite this request if you attach a screenshot in context (progress view with jobs in various states) because we will have to submit one as part of the design request. Something like the screenshot in bug 206876. Prakash, do you have a test app that makes it easy to set this up?

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
