Description thomas menzel CLA 2009-11-04 14:38:18 EST
WHAT
as someone that uses several diff. perspectives it would be great to have a way to say:
a) this config shall be valid for a list of perspectives
b) treat diff. perspectives the same, e.g. the java and plugin perspective are pretty much the same in my setup.

MOTIVATION
what happens now: after installing a new plugin that contributes new items i have to select it for each of the perspectives which is cumbersome.

SUGGESTION
a)
the whole dialog could be extended with a (checkbox) list to the left that contains the perspective. the selection in that list determines the checkbox values in the tabbed dialog to the right as is now. due to multiselect some will have the tristate value.

the current perspective is preselected when opening the dialog.

b)
a button "link perspectives" under the list could open the dialog to define which perspectives are to be treated the same. a group name is to given for them.

perspective that are treated the same are listed hierarchically in the list under the new group node and only that group node is selectable.

when assigning perspectives to a group, merging of settings need to take place:
options:
- use group settings
- use added perspective settings
- union merge

CONSEQUENCE
the action should by renamed to "customize perspective*s*"

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
