Description Wolfgang Grossinger CLA 2009-07-14 06:10:15 EDT
From time to time, I have to open some specification documents, some documents for testing and so on. As our project is not really small, it is often time consuming to find the right document. What I am missing and what would be a great enhancement for me and I think also for a lot of other people would be a 'Link view' or 'Favorites view' which allows me to define some links to documents inside (and also outside) of a project and maybe also links to webpages... (whatever you like) for easy access.

I am not sure if such a behavior is somewhere implemented as a plugin (I will check that) but my point of view is, that this thing is quite simple and would be really big improvement in some situations so it should be included as a general eclipse view.

What kind of documents are these? Like Microsoft Word documents or like text files? If they're regular text files in the workspace you could probably just use bookmarks for those.

Also, what does this have to do with Ant?

Sending to Platform UI for comment, maybe this could be done with bookmarks as Remy mentioned?
Comment 3 Wolfgang Grossinger CLA 2009-07-15 13:01:45 EDT
No. I specifically mean links to complex documents like World, PDF, or other things like UML or other diagrams.
A bookmark would be ok, if this view is extended but at the moment I can't use bookmarks for what I want to do. Generally I want to access the book, not specifically a mark inside the book even if this would be nice too, but I think that would be to much :-)

Marking this as a "Markers" enhancement.

It sounds like a new marker type defined in the platform and a marker view that shows these types. From what you are saying, you just want to see a list of links and be able to navigate to them. Are you also saying these links should be scoped by project?
Comment 5 Wolfgang Grossinger CLA 2009-07-23 05:34:14 EDT
Well, for my specific problem, a 'Markers' enhancement is ok. But if I think a little bit further I don't like this approach very much, because I would still miss to link other things like resources outside of the project or URLs. At least there should be a specific view like 'Bookmarks' or 'Problems'. Only showing the links in the 'Markers' view would not be a good think, for me the 'Markers' view is a logically mixture of different things even if the concepts behind might be the same.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
