Description Eric Moffatt CLA 2009-05-15 14:36:05 EDT
I created a new plug-in project 'Prj' using a template
Then I created a new class "A" in the 'prj' package

I can drag "A" from the Project Exp -to- the Package Exp (i.e. to move it to the other package but doing the operation in the other direction gets me the 'no smoking' cursor no matter where I go over the Project Exp.

...most of the time...

Francis, it's weird. I used the 'with an editor' template so I have two packages;
'prj' and 'prj.editors'. For me (now) it's consistently repeatable that when "A" is in 'prj' then DnD from PgkExp to ProjExp gives "no drop" but when "A" is in 'prj.editors' it works. Don't know what to make of it...

Found in I20090514-2000.

If this is a regression it should be fixed in RC2, gonna tag it for RC2 until I can investigate and fix or defer (Wednesday).
Comment 3 Eric Moffatt CLA 2009-05-19 14:23:34 EDT
Francis, it seems to be triggered by first dragging the file from the Project Explorer into the Package Explorer. After that it seems that it won't take the drag -of that file- back into the project explorer. This is ringing vague bells in my head, wasn't there a similar bug (which I can't find...;-)?

I think it's bug 224016...

No, Eric, you were supposed to pick from the list of *open* bugs. You were not supposed to pick a bug that's been *fixed*. hehe. Thanks! I will have a look at it tonight then. If you are in the mood, you can turn on the CNF DnD tracing and it shoudl show you pretty clearly what's going on. Attaching a trace to the bug report would help me.

No problem, I'll do that today, stay tuned...

DnD Trace when getting the no drop case

There's likely a fair bit of cruft, I had to turn on the general 'debug' trace as well...

I'm having trouble with testing this due to an unrelated problem, but my sense of this is it's not RC2 worthy, as it's not a 3.5 regression (there were a lot of bugs like these that were fixed in 3.5). From the attached trace, this might be a JDT UI issue (it could be the same issue as 263619) It's consistently refusing the drop, and there are a couple of known problems in the JDT UI where it will get stuck.

I'm going to remove the milestone and will work on it some more later.

Thanks for helping with this Eric.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
