Drop down menus added in bug 201116 and bug 220457 that allow to switch to an alternative merge viewer should be disabled (hidden) when there are no menu items available. Such situation may occur when we have multiple viewer descriptors returned for the given input but none of them have a reasonable label to show (even an attempt to discover it[1] returned null).

[1] by calling CompareUIPlugin.getDefault().findContentTypeNameOrType or CompareUIPlugin.getDefault().findStructureTypeNameOrType

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
