Toolbar screenshot

Using Eclipse 3.4.2 and 3.5M6 on Windows, when opening an existing workspace the toolbar appears centered and not left-aligned as I would expect (see screenshot).

The workspace is rather old, it was originally created with Eclipse 3.3 and progressively updated with each release.

Newly created workspaces seems to set the toolbar correctly.

Forget to mention that at some point when working, the toolbars is reset to the correct, left-aligned, position. I'm not sure what causes this, sometimes it is re-centered but most of times it will remain left-aligned until the IDE is restarted or the workspace switched.

Marco, could this perhaps be induced by switching display environments between sessions (i.e. docked vs undocked)?

Is it repeatable with the 'failing' workspace (i.e. does it always show up wrong for that workspace?
Comment 3 Marco Maccaferri CLA 2009-03-23 16:28:11 EDT
No, I'm not switching environments, I start Eclipse, select the workspace and the toolbar is centered.

It is repeatable all times with the failing workspace. The toolbar is initially centered every time I open that workspace.

Could you attach the 'workbench.xml' for this workspace on the defect? It's located under <workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.ui.workbench.

I shouldn't need the actual workspace, I'll rig something up that uses this xml and a different WS...

Thanks Marco, at first glance I don't see anything 'suspicious' in the XML (i.e. no extra fields in the 'coolbarLayout' section...).

<Later> Sorry to be a pain Marco but could you package up the file itself in a ZIP (or email it). In the form it's currently in I get a strange error on startup ('content is not allowed in prolog') almost certainly been a result of my attempts save the fiel by running it through notepad...;-).

Zipped workbench file

Zipped workbench file.

Thanks again...now I can open the WS using your version of the workbench.xml but I still can't beat it into exhibiting the behavior you see. I've changed my monitor to 1280x1024 in case it was an edge condition based on screen resolution but mine always correctly left-aligns.

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. Any suggestions?

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
