Description Scott Lewis CLA 2008-12-22 16:01:14 EST
As discussed on bug #236205, the DSDP-mobile tools for linux currently consists of some number (previously ~4, but could be more now) of plugins that basically implement the Virtual Network Console protocol and an SWT-based user interface upon that protocol.

ECF is essentially a project intended to deliver multiple protocol implementations of common APIs, and already has multiple client requests to support VNC-based screen sharing as part of ECF (i.e. see resulting bug #239854).

This bug is to request that the Tml project contribute the VNC protocol implementation and user interface to the ECF project in the interests of making VNC functionality available to the widest possible audience, both within EF projects and to outside consumers.

Further, it seems to me a fairly poor fit to refer to VNC as 'tools for mobile linux' when it's usage can be (and arguably already is) much wider than either mobile or linux. Thus I believe ECF is a more appropriate long-term home for the VNC protocol implementation and ui (obviously this does not include other aspects of tml).

If this entails adding committers to ECF for maintaining/developing the VNC plugins then this would/will be welcome.

Scott,

After the discussions we had on the phone several months ago, are you able to use the TmL VNC components as they are? Can we close this bug?

Thanks

I have not been able to work on it. I would not close the bug at this point.
