One purpose of the workspace history is to save past states of workspace files so that there is a fallback for the user who wishes to recover something from one of\ these past states. At present, there is support for browsing past states of existing files. However, there is no convenient way to discover and recover files that have been deleted from the workspace. Expectation: If I have local history turned on and I delete a file from the workspace using the workkbench UI, I should be able to recover that file from the local history. This includes the case where I delete a folder and all the files in it; I expect to be able to recover the deleted files (even though I do not know their exact names/paths). Workaround: If you know the path of the deleted file, you should recreate it (with empty content, say) and then recover the previous state from the history. Note that this UI cannot be provided unless the workspace history API is extended as well. See 1GGNOZN: ITPCORE:ALL - API - unable to discover deleted files in local history NOTES:
PRODUCT VERSION: R0.9
Good points are raised in this defect report. Needs to be considered as part of the UI contribution to the Local History work for 2.0
Adding DJ to cc list. The PR referenced above (1GGNOZN) is not in Bugzilla. Has it been resolved in Core?
Adding more API to local history for discovery of deleted resources is currently being investigated. It is an uncommitted item for 2.0.
