We should define what convention(s) we are going to support around branches, tags, VCS structure, etc.

At the moment, we support whatever you want:

cvs tags, branches, HEAD
svn tags, branches, trunk
cvs or svn dumped to a local tree and referenced with localSourceCheckoutDir
(git?)
...
