Description Michael Kamsties CLA 2008-10-22 16:27:28 EDT
Problem is also described here:

http://www.birt-exchange.com/forum/designing-birt-reports/12377-design-question.html

The Problem:

a DataCube Groub contains maybe 6 elemens

group
  element1
     element2
        ...

if you move this group to the CrossTab row view you get 6 cells from left to right in the row view.

So in many cases this is not what the user wants. So he move the elements in the cells to other cells so that these cells now contains 2,3 or more elements. The cells which are now empty can't be deleted and take up room. And after changing the background color, the borders are visible.

how to remove the levels
Comment 6 Zhiqiang Qian CLA 2008-10-23 05:08:46 EDT
To truly "delete" a level, you can select the "Show/Hide Group Levels" from the
popup menu of the main dimension cell. Directly pressing "delete" will only
delete the content of that cell. This is the same behavior as table or grid.
Please refer to the screenshot I attached above.

Sorry, but this is not the problem

in the case you described you will lost displayed information.
but I don't want to lost he inormation I want to change how the information is displayed

try the following to understand my problem:

take the cross tab example

you have country, state, city cells

move the the city cell content under the state (this will make no sense here but show the problem.

now you should have a new view in layout (image=>"layout after move") and html view (image=>"html after move).

Now the view display empty cells and the information which is displayed there in the past is diplayed at the position I want. But I don't want the empty cells.

If I know hide the city cell like you described, the information vanish :(

OK, now I understand it. This is kind of an enhancement request to support Crosstab level visibility setting.
Comment 11 Michael Kamsties CLA 2008-10-24 08:17:19 EDT
great. Is there a possible workaround in Birt 2.2.1 or 2.3 because I can't go up to a newer version because JamaContour will support Birt 2.2.1 in Contour 2.4 or above and may support Birt 2.3 in Contour 2.5.

Kind Regards
  Michael

So far, Can you try set the width of that column/cell to 0, and remove the border setting?
