I found these two errors in the .log:

I20081014-1600.

When I do a full build I get my log swamped with the entries listed below. I see nothing special/bad in the UI but have no clue at this point whether API tooling is still functional. Marking as 'major' since I have errors in my log and no clue what to do about them.


My setup is to have lots of stuff in source from CVS and all required bundles imported as binary.

Ok, I think I found the cause of the problem.
When we tried to resolve a type from a package that is located in multiple components, we could not resolve the type if it was not in the first component from the list of components that contains the corresponding package.

The two errors about methods that could not be located is related to the default constructor being added. In these two cases, a constructor with arguments has been removed, but no constructor without any argument has been added. So we end up with the default constructor being added for free by the compiler.

When we try to find the corresponding member to check the @since tag, we cannot find any since it has no corresponding source.

Might be, but the real problem is that while the workspace can compile without problems there are some of the plug-ins missing (either from workspace or from target, depending on your setup). PDE doesn't report that. Why?

Example:
B imported as binary plug-in, requires A
C in source, requires B
==> everything compiles just fine but API tooling might not find everything that's needed. Also, launching will disable C since A is missing.

In my concrete case I had PDE UI and PDE API tooling as source and all but most p2 plug-ins imported as binary. Both source plug-ins complied just fine.

I think API tooling should not only log the error but also create an error marker on those projects it can't validate due to such errors and then stop. Like JDT Core does when it detects a build path error.

In fact PDE should check binary plug-ins in my workspace for required plug-ins as this leads to many problems, not just API tooling: also JDT Core has troubles creating correct type hierarchies or resolving code (this is requested by bug 194777).

Then this is a separate issue.
This bug was about not being able to resolve some types when all bundles were actually available. I'll open a new bug report to be more resilient when some bundles are missing.
