Description William Deans CLA 2008-08-04 12:42:44 EDT
Build ID: I20080617-2000

Steps To Reproduce:
1. Use alt-f-s to save your work
2. Eventually ... on my platform on my build the File menu item itself will become grayed out so that no file actions may be activated from the menu. This always eventually happens but I cannot make it happen at will.
3. Closing and opening Eclipse solves the problem.

Can you still save with Ctrl+S? Are the other menus greyed out too? If not, have you ever seen those greyed out?

Are there any errors in your error log? <workspace>/.metadata/.log?

Please re-open with requested information.

Greetings,

Thank you for looking at this issue. I think I may have found the source of the problem and it is a bug with vmware where keyboard mappings are lost:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/195982

Since it is a bug with vmware I suppose this issue should remain closed? Or should eclipse be updated to better handle the error condition in which the proper keyboard mapping is lost?

Hope this helps,
William

PS: If you want to re-open it please let me know and I will fire vmware back up and get you the error log you request.

It's fine resolved with it being a vmware problem. If you are able to reproduce it without vmware (or there is a useful error in the error log) please re-open and I'll have another look.

VMware released version 6.5 of their Workstation product which was suppose to
solve the issue of losing the keyboard mappings. I upgraded to this version
yesterday and rebooted. I have not seen the keyboard mappings lost since but I
did experience the loss of the File menu item today in Eclipse so I am
reopening the bug. I have attempted to provide all the information you
previously requested:

a) I have provided a screenshot of the lost file menu
b) I have attached the error log. I do not know if it is useful.
c) Ctrl-S still appears to function properly

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
