Description Erich Gamma CLA 2002-09-26 07:35:30 EDT
As more and more launch configuration types are contributed the launch config
dialog becomes cluttered. Support for launch config working sets helps to
filter out a subset of the launch configurations and this is good.

However, there is no support for filtering out launch config types in a task
specific way as is supported by the eclipse workbench with perspectives. In the
Eclipse Platform a Perspective determines the visible actions and views within
a window.

There is already support for perspective specific filtering for launch short
cuts and we should offer a similar mechanism for launch config types. We should
investigate into something similar for launch config types. For example, when
I'm in the Java perspective I don't need a prominent presentation of the C/C++
launch configs in the LCD. The C++ launch config type could show up in
an "Other" section of the tree.

The benefit of a perspective based filtering (where a launch config can define
the perspectives it applies to) is that the dialog can be presented to the user
in a more digestable form out-of-the-box, i.e., without that the user needs to
understand launch config working sets, which are a more advance feature.

Consider for 2.1

Deferred for post 2.1 consideration. Plan is to remove working set support from
2.1.
